About
I started playing at six in Scotland and came down to London in 2012 to study at the London College of Music. I've made a living at the piano and behind a stack of keyboards ever since. Rock nights at Metalworks in Camden, blues at the Blues Kitchen, the odd big one at the Jazz Café, session work, and a fair bit of quieter playing in hotels.
In 2019 I spent a month at sea on The World. Around then I got to the kind of tension in my hands that ends careers, and it sent me looking for a better way of doing it. I found the Taubman Approach and I've been training in it since, in London with Deren Eryilmaz and in New York with Edna Golandsky. It rebuilt my technique, and now I teach it.
These days it's live and session keys, classical playing, and Taubman lessons.
What I do
Piano, keys, synths. Doing what's right for the song.
The part that fits, played once, at the right level.
A Prophet 6, a Juno 106 and a vintage pedalboard at home, and a long-standing weakness for warm analogue.
London. Available to travel.
Recitals.
Mozart, Debussy.

What other musicians say
There is nothing he cannot play, as I found out when we recorded a song for an EP of mine & he transformed the accompaniment into a piece strongly, and beautifully, influenced by a Bach prelude. He always “accompanies” a singer, something that doesn't always happen. You won't regret booking him!
Simon BellProfessional singer since 1964
Chris is my go-to for all piano and keys recording. His technical ability allows him to play just about anything yet he never overcooks parts, playing exactly what is needed. As well as being right at home behind a piano he is brilliant at programming synths and building textures.
Elliot Coombs
He is equally comfortable on pretty much any instrument and has a vast knowledge of many different genres of music, which allows him to quickly identify what a track needs, whether that be a sparse piano part or screaming hammond solo. Always, his passion for the music comes across.
Joe Card
Chris is my go to for all things piano and synth. He is fantastic to work with, goes above and beyond, and his sounds and equipment are great. He's recorded on my last EP and has helped with arrangement and recorded some covers that we re-imagined.
Erika Footman
Chris did an excellent job getting the performance I was looking for. He was easy to work with and extremely patient. I'd definitely recommend him for your project.
Steven J.
Man this guy can play! Wouldn't hesitate to get Chris to play whether it's live or studio in the future.

Taubman technique
Most pianists get taught to push through tension. It's why so many careers quietly end in injury. The Taubman Approach says the opposite: if it hurts, the movement's wrong, and the movement can be fixed.
I teach one to one in London and online. Beginners very welcome, and so is anyone who plays already and has hit a wall, whether that's pain or a passage that never gets any cleaner.
